StormWorld-A D20 based Homebrew

Hello and welcome to my little collection of notes.

Like so many gamers, I have always wanted to create an amazing, fully interactive, animated, detailed and documented website as a home and homage to my homebrew campaign world. Well since I have just about no skills as a web-designer, programmer, cartographer, illustrator or creative writer, this is what we are left with.

A fumbling attempt at execution by an enthusiatic but unqualified dork.

So my homebrew has been in creation, in some shape or form since the mid 80's. Although, it was not always called StormWorld then. My approach has been just like everyone else, there are games and game worlds that I have always wanted to play in but they just didn't exist. So why don't you create yourself? Of course this is sort of the blessing and the curse of this hobby. You CAN create the game world you always wanted to play in. You'll just most likely never actually get to play in it because YOU will be stuck GMing it. Oh Well.

So is this the next best fantasy ORIGINAL campaign world??

Nope.

Not even close.

As we all know being original is actually pretty hard and quite often done for its own sake. This pursuit does not  actually result in something compelling. Yeah it's original but it is also so twisted and bizzare as to be unrecognizable or even worse, F'ing boring. Nope. My approach is so much less ambitious. This is your typical "kit-bash' homebrew. I am taking the things, places, concepts and styles I have found from all my inspirations and thrown them into a blender and attempted to hit the "make sense" button.

Alot of things influence this world, obviously first and fore most, Tolkien, but I don't really need to go into that? Do I? But also stuff like Elfquest, Dune, Forgotten Realms, Tom Clancy, ancient mythology, real world cultures, various movies, economics, politics, religion, hell even good old Star Wars. So you get majestic immortal elves alongside small animalistic elves. Small, medieval, remote villages and huge metropolitan cities supported by flying ships. Japanese Bushido inspired warlords and Dr Mureau hybrids.

Oh yeah, NO ORCS OR GNOMES!!

I have taken concepts, photos, illustrations, movies or plot lines and lined then up and I am trying to create a concept where all the pieces fit. Without TOO MUCH suspension of disbelief. The second thing I wanted to do was hang this on a game mechanic frame work that made it all playable but internally consistant. So I have re-written much of the mechanics from Dungeons and Dragons 3.X. Well, probably at this point should really be considered more of a D20 derivative because I have monkeyed with a lot of the game to make it fit and support.

Hopefully you find this interesting.

If you do, drop me a line.
